Another night at Ault Park. This time I was fortunate enough to line up
with Brad Leach and, surprise of surprises, a slumming D. Hall, who was running in camouflage.
I wasn't sure how I was going to be feeling, but got into the groove
really quickly and decided to go for points. I though I ought to ride
D. Halls' wheel, but realized he wasn't going to be leading anyone out
in view of the officials. part way down the hill on the first sprint
lap I managed to track the QCW rider who is leading the points
standings. I followed him in for second in the first sprint, and again
for third in the second sprint. Following the second sprint, both Brad
and I were seduced by D. Halls' exhortations to force a break and make
it stick. Which we managed to do for a couple of laps, before getting
swallowed up. I elected to sit out the third sprint, as I was gassed.
From there a couple of guys managed to get away. Recalling last week, I
found the wheel of Reser rider and sat on, looking to get towed to the
line. On the last last, we gobbled up three riders near the bottom of
the hill, and I thought we had caught the break. I followed the Reser's
wheel and made my move, but was not able to pull back more than his
rear wheel, crossing the line behind him. As it turns out,
unfortunately, there was another two riders away, so we were actually
sprinting for third and fourth.
Overall, not a bad day. Managed nine points, and fifth overall for the night.
