A beautiful day out at Coldstream for the BGSG Road Race. Unfortunaltely, we had pretty low numbers for the day. This was reflected across the board. The 4's race had the largest field of the day with 17 riders.

The team was well represented with Brad Leach, Brad Oakley, myself, and a new teammate, Matt Wright. We, along with Main Street Velo, had the numbers to make something happen. Dan Dickinson of MSV was looking to make a break almost from the get go, and asked if I wanted to go with him. I'm a little leery of a 45 minute break, after checking to see how Matt was feeling (who was feeling great), I convinced Dan to wait until about the halfway point. Brad Oakley set the early pace, letting the others know we were here to do some damage. We made sure the we were at or near the front for almost the entire race.

Not long in, Matt took a flier, which didn't stick. After that, someone else put a dig in and we responded and briefly separated the field, but it came back together.  Matt took another dig, and I was able to stay at the front, trying to keep a lid on the field to give him a shot. Ultimately, we came back together. Main Street was pretty active, trying to set something up, but they didn't have the legs to make it stick. Neither did several other efforts made by solo riders.

With the laps cards out, a Bike Clicks guy sat on the front pulling. I sat on his wheel, I mean, if he wants to pull for a few laps, more power to him. We were well placed to cover any moves if they were to go. Luckily Matt reacted quickly when the pace of the Bike Clicks guy dropped, preventing anyone from making a serious jump. From there is was pretty much one of us or MSV on the front. Approaching the bell lap, I was glued to Matt's wheel. Brad Leach took over near top of the hill down to the curve at the bottom, winding it up, and giving Matt a short breather. Once Brad pulled off, Matt hit the jets and I just held on for the ride. We smoked the back stretch, and I don't think I've ever been up the hill that fast. Matt completely killed it, putting me in a great spot. I came off his wheel and just let it rip up the right side. I came across first, with Matt close behind.

There is no way I would have won without all the hard work done by my teammates, especially Matt, who seriously rocked the lead out. That was a blast.
