A full field of 75 in the 4/5's. Fortunately, they were doing call ups
based on registration date, so I was in the second row on the line.
The pace seemed pretty high, although I'm not sure if that was the
actual speed, or the heat. I worked my way up to the top 15 within the
first couple of laps and I never felt under serious pressure. Being
near the front made the 180 degree turn a lot less messy.
Lewis, from McDonald's made two attempts to get away, the second of
which stuck. I knew he was planning on it, but didn't feel up to going
with him, so I gambled that others would work to bring him back. Bad
decision. We managed to shed quite a few riders, and the race came down
to s field sprint for second. I had an OK line, but just didn't have
the legs to pull away. 5th in the field sprint and 6th overall. All in
all, I'm disappointed with my day.
