Jim Havey and I drove over to Long Run for the opening race of the spring series. It was chilly, but at least it was dry this year, so we were spared the cold, wet misery of last year.

We lined up with about 70-odd guys in the 4/5's. I was up a little late the night before, and was feeling somewhat sluggish to start things off. The first lap or two were a little rough. Settled into a groove, stayed mid-pack and out of trouble. One wreck in the race, right in front of me, luckily I was able to avoid it. Rode over a wheel and enjoyed a little scenic stretch on the grass, but stayed up.

Moved up closer to the front on the last lap, sat about 10th wheel coming into the last few turns.I picked a wheel, and guessed wrong. He never made a move, came around him and started closing down the two in front. Lost second by a bike throw, and to a junior to boot. Third place, hope that is the sign of things to come.

There are some video highlights available here. They were shot by Jason Monk of Main Street Velo / Sunrise Bakery.
